FijiLIFE Foundation in Australia has come together with charities in Fiji to deliver gifted medical & educational equipment & supplies from Rotary Donations In Kind, Adelaide, to charities and hospitals in Fiji and provide funding for disability aids & home modifications.
Providing mobility and disability aids and home modifications to people in Fiji affected by spinal injuries and the physically challenged.
Our consignee for containers of gifted medical and educational equipment from Rotary Donations In Kind, Adelaide, is Viti Spinal Injuries Association of Fiji (VSIAF).
Spinal Cord Injury is a devastating physical state that results in Psychosocial, social and economic challenges, not only for the patient but also to his or her entire family.
It is an impairment of the spinal cord that leads to multiple physical challenges and disabilities in one or more of the following body functions: sensory, motor, bladder – bowel, sexual, respiratory, hemodynamic stability and temperature control. The degree of abnormality could range from mild reduction to complete absence of functions, depending on the severity of impairment. Spinal impairment may be due to any cause including but not limited to, traumatic accidents and injury, infection, congenital causes, tumors or any other disease condition.
In 2017, Fiji ratified the “UN Convention on the rights of a Person with Disability”, opening the doorway to greater awareness of the rights and aspirations of people with disability in Fiji.
