Gus’s Story
Augustus (Gus) Raddock is from Suva, Fiji. He worked for First National City Bank, Native Land Trust Board, Native Land Development Corporation in Suva before emigrating to Australia.
In Australia Gus worked for the Central Land Council, Stuart Highway Alice Springs, Physical Disability Council of South Australia (PDCSA) Unley, APN Options Coordination, Disability SA, College of Learning & Development, TAFE, Disability SA, and Disability Advocacy Network of South Australia (DANSA) until June 2011.
Gus acquired disability in a motor vehicle accident [Quadriplegia C5/6] in 1989 at Alice Springs, Central Australia.
From 3rd June, 1999 to 10th May, 2015 Gus has organised the shipment of 22 containers of medical and educational equipment from Adelaide to Suva, for the Fiji Association of South Australia Incorporated (FASA).
As a Director of FijiLIFE Foundation (FLF), Gus is responsible for organising & soliciting retired hospital equipment, wheelchairs, mobility aids and other medical equipment etc. from hospitals & NGO’s in South Australia.
FLF has signed an MoU and developed a working relationship with Donations In Kind (DIK) in Adelaide, a Rotary Australia World Community Service (RAWCS) program that sources surplus goods and products that have no further use within Australia. DIK supplies everything from books, school materials and stationery to medical equipment, hospital furniture and medical supplies for distribution to needy third world countries.
Gus will liaise with Viti Spinal Injuries Association in Fiji as consignee for all containers shipped to Fiji from Adelaide carrying medical and educational equipment of for Fiji charities and government hospitals in rural communities if dire need of this assistance.
